    Description

    Here we have aa
Antique 1800's MELVIN & BADGER, BOSTON Traveling Medical Doctor's LEATHER Covered Apothecary Small Chest
    .
The inside surface of the lid has an attached paper label: "FROM MELVIN & BADGER APOTHECARIES, 43 Temple Pl.  Boston."  Melvin and Badger opened for business in 1831.  This small chest appears to be made of wood with a metal band-lip around the lid edge.  The chest and its contents are in good condition considering the approx. 150 years of wear that this chest has seen.  The leather top handle has separated from one end.  A small piece of leather missing from the edge of the metal band, and the leather strap used to secure the lid to the bottom has gone missing except for a very small section.  The compartmentalized chest originally held 10 glass bottles with sintered ground glass stoppers.  Two bottles have gone missing over the years, one is missing its stopper and there are tiny edge chips on some of the necks. (see pics).  All of the bottle are molded with  A.A.G. in the glass side.  The bottles with stoppers are approx. 4" Tall.  Some of the bottles have small air bubbles in the glass. The following bottle labels are present: SODA MINT, QUININIE SULPHATE, CAMPHOR, AROMAT...The inside of the chest is lined with red felt.  The lid has a 'cushioned-felt' lining. The chest measures 7"L x 3-1/2"W x 4-3/4"H.
Good Antique Small Chest for a CIVIL WAR or pharmaceutical display !!
