Condition: Excellent condition. Rare. On the slide, there is a corner opening and a line, see the last picture. This corner opening is most likely done on purpose so this side of the slide is loose while the other side tight so to be able to move the slide but also stay in place due to the special nature of the material. Inside the locket there is chip on the raised oval, please see the 5th picture for this condition. Overall it is an exceptional piece with hinge mechanism and slide structure that work great.

A museum quality antique Victorian Gutta Percha long oval link chain necklace with a slide structure and an oval hinged locket pendant with a Bacchus or Dionysus cameo, all original, revealing a cross surrounded by hearts, a typical Victorian sentimental token.
Quite impossible nowadays to find a whole Gutta Percha locket necklace piece. This superb locket necklace has warm and deep age patina.
The top ring and jump ring appear to be base metal.
The chain is approx. 35.5" long. The slide is a bit longer than 3/4". The locket is approx. 1 3/4" long.
