In 1852, a few of the leading citizens met and organized the Ilion Bank which began operations under the state banking laws with a capital of 0,000. Eliphalet Remington was elected the first president and held that office until his death. The bank suspended business in 1866, paying all of its liabilities in full.
Eliphalet Remington (October 28, 1793 – August 12, 1861) designed the Remington rifle and founded what is now known
as the Remington Arms Co., L.L.C. Originally the company was known
as E. Remington followed by E. Remington & Son and then finally E. Remington and Sons.
