Whitall Tatum 5 inch Scientific Specimen Jar Complete!

Description

Up for auction is a complete Whitall Tatum Co. specimen jar with lid and iron clamp. The jar is one of the older style museum jars based on their 1861 patent used on their Millville Atmospheric Fruit Jars. The jar has rounded shoulders with an applied lip to which the lid is tightened down with the metal clamp. The jar w/clamp stands approx. 5 1/2" high and just the jar without clamp and lid is approx. 4 1/4”.  The jar is 3” wide at the base and at the top.  The internal diameter of the mouth of the jar is slightly over 2 1/4". The jar holds over 12 ounces when filled up to the lip.
The base of the jar is pontiled. The clamp has external rust as shown in the photos but still operates freely.  I have not tried to clean the rust in any way.  The lip of the jar is in nearly perfect condition.  What looks like a crack in the picture is a manufacturing flaw from the attachment of the lip. The lid has WHITHALL TATUM & Co. PHILADELPHIA NEW YORK embossed on it and has one flange to tie a specimen. The lid
is also in nearly perfect condition

The jar is in excellent condition and shows little sign of wear (see photos).
I have taken plenty of pictures so please look at them carefully and contact me with any questions or concerns. The jar will be packaged very carefully with the jar, lid and clamp packed separately to assure no damage.
